Barry Gold joins Alvarez & Marsal as a managing director in private equity

Barry Gold has joined the private equity performance improvement (PEPI) practice of Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), a New York-headquartered management consulting firm.
Based in New York, Gold brings more than three decades of experience in private equity investing, debt financing, and financial advisory in the infrastructure sector, including power, energy, transport, and water.
Gold has advised private equity clients across North America, Europe, and Asia on strategy, portfolio value creation, due diligence, and asset optimization. He has also led financings for infrastructure assets, public-private partnerships, and advisory assignments worth more than $30 billion in transaction value.

Gold spent the last three years with Marathon Capital Partners, where he was a senior managing partner. Before that, he was head of infrastructure investment at ORIX USA, co-founder and co-head of The Carlyle Group’s infrastructure fund, co-head of Citigroup’s structured and infrastructure finance group, and head of Asian project finance at Lehman Brothers.
Gold has an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in computer applications from New York University. He previously was an adjunct professor at his alma mater, teaching infrastructure finance, and was editor of the Journal of Structured Finance.
