Grant Thornton New Zealand joins Grant Thornton Advisors

Grant Thornton New Zealand has become the latest Grant Thornton member firm to join the private-equity-backed multinational advisory platform.

New Mountain Capital in March 2024 acquired Grant Thornton US, the largest member firm of the Grant Thornton International network. Since then, the private equity firm has bolted on numerous firms, including numerous Grant Thornton country member firms.

As with most private equity purchases, Grant Thornton US was split into legally separate audit and consulting businesses. With each addition of a Grant Thornton country member firm, the non-attest services (consulting, tax) have joined Grant Thornton Advisors LLC, but the audit businesses remain separate and do not merge with Grant Thornton LLP, the US-based audit business.

As such, Grant Thornton Advisors has become a large, multinational, integrated consulting business. The 2025 bolt-ons include the Grant Thornton member firms for France, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Switzerland/Liechtenstein, Cayman, Channel Islands, and UAE.

Grant Thornton Advisors also this year added Stax, a Boston-based M&A consulting firm, and Auxis, a Fort Lauderdale, FL-based business process outsourcing firm.

The addition of New Zealand extends Grant Thornton Advisors’ geographical reach into Asia-Pacific. Grant Thornton New Zealand has 300+ professionals and $40 million in annual revenue.

“By welcoming Grant Thornton New Zealand to our platform, we’re expanding our multinational reach into a vital region with a firm that shares our ambition and values. Together, we’re building a truly borderless one-of-a-kind platform that delivers exceptional outcomes across industries and geographies,” said Jim Peko, CEO of Grant Thornton Advisors LLC.

The deal is slated to close later this year.

“As our market continues to evolve, businesses are looking for smarter solutions, deeper expertise and global connectivity,” said Russell Moore, CEO of Grant Thornton New Zealand. “By joining Grant Thornton Advisors, we can deliver all three — bringing world-class technology, insight and capital to help our clients grow with confidence, both in New Zealand and beyond.”
