Mercer names Geoffrey Smith Gulf Coast office leader

Health, wealth, and career consultancy Mercer has named Geoffrey Smith as its Gulf Coast office leader. He will be based out of Houston and report to Central market CEO Greg Martens.

In his role, Smith will focus on building and strengthening relationships with local clients, as well as driving revenue growth and expanding the firm’s presence in the Gulf Coast market, which includes South Texas and Louisiana.

“We are excited to appoint Geoff to this role,” Martens said. “His leadership experience and proven track record will help us further provide exceptional service and solutions to our clients and fuel Mercer’s continued growth across the Gulf Coast.”

Smith has been with Mercer for 17 years. He was most recently a senior client manager and partner in the firm’s Houston office. He has served as the leader of Mercer’s South Central market healthcare vertical, where he focused on energy and healthcare. Before joining Mercer, Smith worked as a senior consultant at BearingPoint. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Oklahoma, and a master’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University. 

Smith’s appointment comes several weeks after several additional high-profile hires and promotions from Mercer. In mid-September, the firm named Don Bobo as West market leader for the large and jumbo employer team; Christina Losier as a principal consultant in the health practice; and Trudi Sharpsteen as a partner in the health and benefits practice.

Mercer employs more than 23,000 people. It has offices in 44 countries and operates in more than 130 countries. The firm is a subsidiary of Marsh & McClennan Companies, a professional services firm that employs 75,000 people and reports annual revenue of nearly $17 billion. In addition to Mercer, the group includes Marsh, Guy Carpenter, and Oliver Wyman.
