Alera Group – an insurance broking and risk, wealth management, and benefits consulting firm – has acquired HR inTune, a Philadephia-based human resources consulting firm. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Based in Deerfield, Illinois, Alera Group has over 1,800 employees in the US, serving a wide range of clients. The firm was created in 2017 from the merging of 24 companies across the US to achieve national scale. Alera Group is the 16th largest privately held insurance firm in the country, and the seventh largest privately held employee benefits firm.

Alera’s benefits consulting practice includes offerings in health, welfare, and retirement benefits strategy, benefits administration and technology, compliance advisory, and executive compensation advisory.

The firm has now expanded its human resources and benefits consulting capabilities with the acquisition of HR inTune. The boutique consulting firm delivers services in compensation programs, HR compliance, HR technology analysis and support, and leadership training.

“Most human resource consulting firms are a part of a larger organization who sell payroll services, HR software, benefits brokerage, or a combination of all of these and other services,” notes HR inTune’s website. “Therefore, their service and advice is geared towards selling and retaining their other business lines. The primary focus of our service and support is to provide our clients with the highest level of service and expertise based on their needs as an organization.”

As a part of Alera, the firm won’t be able to tout that same independence from cross-selling of product and service lines. It will, however, benefit from the typical refrain of “expanded resources and a national network.”

“Becoming part of Alera Group is a powerful next step for our firm,” said Jamie Honigman, president of HR inTune. “With the national resources of Alera Group, we are positioned for growth through collaboration, elevating our clients’ experience as we offer more resources and tools than ever before.”

Alan Levitz, CEO of Alera Group, added, “HR inTune brings exciting enhancements to Alera Group’s existing HR service offerings. We are thrilled to welcome the HR inTune team, led by Jamie Honigman, and we look forward to the many ways future collaboration will positively impact our clients.”

The HR inTune team will join the Philadelphia location of Alera, and will continue to serve clients in their current roles.
