Health Management Associates acquires nonprofit-focused NPO Solutions
Health Management Associates (HMA), a Lansing, Michigan-based healthcare sector consultancy, has acquired NPO Solutions, a Los Angeles-based management consulting firm which serves social sector organizations.
Founded in 1985, HMA is a national research and consulting firm specializing in healthcare program and policy issues. The firm has tackled a wide range of public healthcare projects, from the development of complete healthcare delivery systems, to the translation of complex data into useful insights.
HMA delivers consulting work to government agencies, regional and national foundations, investors, multi-state health system organizations and single site health care providers, and employers. The Lansing-headquartered company has 200 professionals across 23 national offices, coast-to-coast.
The acquisition of NPO Solutions expands HMA’s capabilities in serving nonprofits, while expanding its footprint in California, where HMA has four offices.
NPO was founded in 1998 and helps nonprofits build their capacity, efficiency, and community impact. The Los Angeles-based consulting firm supports clients with strategy (defining vision and a path forward); capacity building (partnering on all facets of implementation); and evaluation (using data to guide and inform continuous improvement).
NPO has expertise in the areas of public education, affordable housing, mental health, and youth development, among others, and has served clients such as the LA Parks and Rec Department, Downey Unified School District, and Inner-City Arts.
HMA will make NPO Solutions a division of its HMA Community Strategies unit, which addresses social needs that affect public healthcare. The unit consults on areas including housing and food access, discrimination, violence, and unemployment.
"NPO Solutions has an impressive track record of helping clients strengthen their organizations and expand their reach," Jay Rosen, founder and president of CMA, said. “Their expertise fits nicely with the work being done by our HMA Community Strategies colleagues and further expands the skills and services we can offer clients."
Warren Riley, founder and president of NPO Solutions, commented, “We are very excited to join HMA and the HMA Community Strategies team. We have worked with HMA colleagues over the past few years, and I think this is a very good fit. We bring a shared commitment to collaborative, mission-driven work. In partnership with HMA's team of experts, we can continue and grow what we currently do and what we aspire to do."
