EY US appoints Gerry Dixon as head of public sector practice
EY US has named Gerry Dixon, a more than 30-year veteran of the firm, as head of its government & public sector practice, effective July 1, 2021.
Dixon succeeds Michael Herrington, who has led the practice since 2015. Herrington will retire next year after spending 34 years at the Big Four accounting and consulting firm.
Dixon will lead a 1,500-person team that helps federal, state, and local agencies achieve their missions, modernize, and maintain transparency and accountability. The multidisciplinary team provides services across audit, tax, strategy and operations, supply chain, technology transformation, and cybersecurity, among other areas. EY’s government practice offers functional expertise in defense, intelligence, health and human services, education, infrastructure and transportation, and public safety and justice.
Government practices have been an important revenue driver for consulting firms during the pandemic downturn, as governments globally have sought out support in tackling the myriad challenges of the Covid-19 health crisis. EY’s work in the last year has included advising on vaccine distribution, the transformation of unemployment systems, and CARES Act fund distribution.
Dixon spent the last five years as managing partner of US East region accounts, overseeing all sectors, accounts, business development, and marketing for the firm’s largest region – encompassing 14,000 professionals. Before that, he was managing partner of East region consulting and EY Global and Americas risk leader.
Dixon has deep expertise in risk and performance improvement consulting and has served in six different geographic offices and four national offices at EY. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from The University of Kansas.
