Nick Studer, who was earlier this year appointed head of management consultancy Oliver Wyman, has now been named president & CEO of Oliver Wyman Group, which also includes subsidiaries NERA (economic consulting), Lippincott (brand consulting), and OW Actuarial.

Studer, who is based in London, will also become vice chair at parent company Marsh McLennan and join its executive committee. He will report to Dan Glaser, president & CEO of Marsh McLennan.

Studer succeeds Scott McDonald, who has served as president of Oliver Wyman since 2012. McDonald leaves the firm after 26 years to assume the role of CEO of the British Council, the UK’s international organization for cultural relations and educational opportunities.

“As CEO he led the unification of Oliver Wyman and its transformation in 2018 with a new, comprehensive business strategy,” Glaser said. “We thank [Scott] for his numerous contributions and wish him continued success.”

Prior to becoming managing partner of Oliver Wyman in January, Studer led several practices at the firm, including consumer, industrial, and services; financial services; European finance and risk; and global corporate and institutional banking.

He joined Oliver Wyman as a consultant in 1997 and was named a partner in 2003. Studer has served on the firm’s executive committee since 2012, and has also led various diversity and inclusion efforts within the management consulting business.

Studer holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in manufacturing engineering from the University of Cambridge.

“Nick has led many of Oliver Wyman’s major practices in his 23 years with the business, and every one of them has been the better for his guidance. In addition to his work with clients, he has been a leading voice for change and a major driver of our Inclusion and Diversity agenda,” said Glaser. “His understanding of how to make businesses and people thrive will be indispensable as we build our enterprise’s shared future.”

Headquartered in New York, Oliver Wyman has 5,000 employees globally and annual revenues of $2.1 billion. The other firms under the Marsh McLennan umbrella include Marsh (insurance), Guy Carpenter (reinsurance), and Mercer (HR consulting).

New York-based Marsh McLennan underwent a rebrand earlier this year, dropping its longtime name of “Marsh & McLennan Companies” and adopting a new “infinity”-type logo and standardized font across its four subsidiaries.

“No longer a company of companies, we are one enterprise with four global businesses that are taking on the great challenges of our time—together,” said the firm about its brand refresh.
