Atos buys HPC cloud specialist Nimbix
Atos has acquired Nimbix, a Dallas, Texas-based high-performance computing (HPC) platform provider.
Founded in 2010, Nimbix provides the infrastructure and software needed to build and scale simulations, AI, and machine learning applications. The firm’s Jarvice platform delivers HPC software-as-a-service (Saas) that speeds up data processing for enterprises in energy, life sciences, manufacturing, media, and retail.
Nimbix supports deployments spanning multiple regions and data centers, and private, public, or hybrid cloud models. The firm, which has approximately 20 employees, has processed over 400 million compute hours and completed thousands of projects across 68 countries.
Atos, already a leading player in Europe’s HPC market, will increase its North American HPC footprint through the acquisition. Nimbix will join the Atos brand under the OneCloud umbrella.
“HPC Cloud is growing year-on-year and 2021 represents a tipping point where an increasingly large portion of the global HPC market is adopting cloud as a core part of its HPC strategy,” said Pierre Barnabé, global head of Big Data & security at Atos. “With this acquisition, we will be able to complement our existing HPC offering and expertise with a comprehensive solution, providing customers with the most advanced hybrid cloud capabilities to better manage the use, performance, and delivery of services for both cloud-native and on-prem deployments.”
Atos is one of the world’s largest IT consulting and managed services firms, with 105,000 employees globally. The Paris-based firm’s US footprint is largely formed from its $1.05 billion acquisition of Xerox’s IT outsourcing business in 2014 and its $3.4-billion acquisition of Syntel in 2018.
The firm aimed to further expands its US footprint with a proposed acquisition of DXC Technology, but the offer was ultimately rejected.
"Having pioneered advanced HPC capabilities in cloud computing over the last many years, we are very excited to join forces with Atos, a global leader in HPC infrastructure and digital transformation,” Steve Hebert, CEO and co-founder of Nimbix, said. “We are confident that our combined capabilities bring new solutions and offer significant value to our respective clients.”
Atos in 2020 bought Eagle Creek, a Salesforce specialist based in Minnesota, and Miner & Kasch, a Baltimore-based firm specializing in data science consulting.
