Guidehouse has acquired Dovel Technologies, a McLean, VA-based information technology consulting firm focusing on federal clients.

Founded in 2005, Dovel has domain expertise in health IT, life sciences, public safety, and grants management. The firm’s consulting offerings include cloud adoption and infrastructure optimization, enterprise digital modernization and systems integration, and advanced data analytics and AI.

Dovel has more than 1,800 employees across offices in McLean, VA; Rockville, MD; and Durham, NC.

Dovel was acquired by private equity firm Macquarie Capital in 2019. Macquarie will now sell Dovel to Guidehouse, which is itself a portfolio company of Veritas Capital. Under Macquarie’s ownership in the last three years, Dovel bolted on Ace Info Solutions and continued its organic growth, according to a press release from Macquarie.

The Dovel acquisition will strengthen Guidehouse’s expertise in digital modernization, infrastructure optimization, AI, and analytics particularly in the health, national security, energy, and sustainability & infrastructure industries.

“The acquisition of Dovel is the next strategic step in our journey to create the next generation global consultancy,” said Scott McIntyre, CEO of Guidehouse. “Dovel is an exceptionally strong solutions provider with significant expertise in technology and advanced analytics, addressing some of the most complex challenges their clients face in the health, human services, and public safety markets.”

Guidehouse expects its annual revenues to breach $2 billion after the deal’s projected closing date in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Macquarie and Houlihan Lokey acted as financial advisors to Dovel. Avascent provided buy-side due diligence work to Veritas and Guidehouse.

Damon Griggs, CEO of Dovel, said, “We are excited by the opportunity to join the Guidehouse platform given our complementary capabilities and strategically correlated missions to improve, protect, and save lives.”

Guidehouse, which was formed out of Veritas’ acquisition of PwC’s public sector practice in 2018, added a strong commercial client roster with the $1.1-billion acquisition of Navigant in 2019. The McLean, VA-based firm had more than 10,000 employees globally prior to the Dovel deal.
