FTI Consulting adds Mike Carter and Steve Fisher to blockchain practice
FTI Consulting, a global management consultancy, has expanded its blockchain and digital assets practice with the hiring of Mike Carter as senior managing director and Steve Fisher as managing director.
Cryptoassets have seen a high degree of volatility in the last year, including the collapse of crypto exchange FTX, the softening of bitcoin prices, and across-the-board cratering of non-fungible token (NFT) values.
“Amidst a long period of turmoil in digital assets markets, clients are looking for expert guidance and technology-driven solutions to support their ongoing participation in this rapidly emerging space,” said Sophie Ross, CEO of FTI’s technology division. “We have assembled and continue to grow a Blockchain and Digital Assets practice with the technical, regulatory, legal, strategic, and creative experience needed to help our clients respond to risks, as well as find and leverage opportunities.”
Based in Miami, Carter has extensive experience providing advisory, risk management, and investigative data services in digital assets, financial services, utilities, manufacturing, and construction.
He joins FTI from digital asset exchange Bittrex, where he spent the last three years as chief compliance officer. Before that, he was a senior director at Alvarez & Marsal and a financial crimes consultant at EY US.
Prior to entering consulting, Carter was a captain in the US Army. He has an MBA from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of North Florida.
Based in Boston, Fisher is an expert in product design, innovation strategy, blockchain, cryptoassets, NFTs, and the metaverse.
He joins FTI from McKinsey & Company, where he spent the last four years and led the firm’s corporate innovation program and accelerator. Before that he, he was a principal at CVS Health, where he led a redesign of the company’s e-commerce experience.
Earlier in his career, Fisher was associate director for design and innovation at Digitas, manager for experience design and digital innovation at Sapient, and senior product manager at Visa.
He has an MBA from Brown University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Baltimore.
FTI has added other digital asset experts in recent months, including Jeremy Sheridan as managing director and Li Sun and Jimmy Johnson as directors.
“Globally, clients are grappling with understanding a complex and rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, mitigating risk, responding to complex disputes, and designing investments and innovation for future resilience. These most recent additions to our team are highly complementary to the existing expertise across our practice and enhance the scope, scale, and impact of our robust blockchain and digital assets offerings,” said Steven McNew, senior managing director and global leader of blockchain and digital assets at FTI Consulting.
