BRG adds Rich Rieger as managing director in Chicago

Berkeley Research Group (BRG), an Emeryville, CA-headquartered management consultancy, has hired Rich Rieger as a Chicago-based managing director in its health analytics practice.
Rieger brings nearly 30 years of experience as a senior operating executive and advisor in the life sciences sector. In his new role at BRG, he will advise biopharma and medtech firms strategy, growth, and performance improvement. Rieger will also support life sciences sector investors on investment strategy, due diligence, transaction support, portfolio company improvement, and asset management.
He has extensive experience in corporate strategy, R&D portfolio optimization, M&A execution, commercialization strategies, manufacturing enhancements and operational excellence. He has also provided expert support and testimony for litigation and arbitration in areas including regulatory compliance, IP, M&A, pricing, preclinical and clinical R&D, and bankruptcy.
Rieger joins BRG from Alvarez & Marsal, where he was a managing director in the life sciences practice. Before that, he was a managing director at Huron and a principal at L.E.K. Consulting. On the industry side, Rieger was GM of global pharmaceuticals at Baxter Healthcare Corporation, VP of business development at Horizon Therapeutics, and director of business development and marketing at AbbVie.
Before his career in the life sciences industry, Rieger was a design engineer at IBM, where he was co-inventor of the IBM AS/400 minicomputer system.
He has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
"2025 is poised to be another transformative year for healthcare and life sciences as new technologies, regulations and operational challenges create significant strategic, operational and transaction activity, as well as disputes," said Jerry Lewandowski, a managing director in BRG's health analytics practice. "As healthcare, biopharmaceutical and MedTech firms look to stay ahead of the curve in this complex landscape, Rich's counsel and breadth of experience will be invaluable.”
Rieger added, "I look forward to drawing on the firm's extensive resources, capabilities, and insights to serve BRG's clients, as well as the patients and families who are the ultimate beneficiaries of our work."
