ERM, a UK-headquartered sustainability consulting firm, on April 1 announced the completion of its acquisition of the environmental division of Newfields, an Atlanta-based environmental engineering and consulting firm.

The deal, which was initially announced in January, expands ERM’s North American-based technical and strategic offerings in remediation and environmental services.

The completed transaction has added a team of approximately 110 professionals in strategic consulting, site investigation, and remediation practices. The Newfields environmental team has expertise across environmental forensics and emerging contaminants, human health impact and risk assessment, data analytics, sediment management and marine sciences, and hydrogeology and groundwater modeling.

“Transforming environmental liabilities and legacy assets is fundamental to the sustainability goals of many organizations,” said Susan Angyal, ERM’s regional CEO for North America. “Bringing together the expertise of ERM and NewFields Environmental Division will help clients to tackle an increasingly complex set of environmental challenges while harnessing the growing importance of environmental data for decision-making and value creation.”

ERM says it is the world’s largest pure-play sustainability consulting firm. The London-based consultancy has over 8,000 employees across 40 countries, including 2000+ US employees across 50+ offices.

ERM has practices in areas including energy transition, climate and net zero, compliance and auditing, certification, reporting, clean energy procurement, EHS management, M&A, and sustainable finance.

“Joining forces with ERM presents an exciting opportunity for our team and clients,” said Patrick Gobb, NewFields CEO. “We share a commitment to environmental consulting and are eager to leverage our combined strengths to create lasting value for our clients.”

ERM last year acquired Energetics and Workiva.
