West Monroe buys sustainability consultancy 2050 Partners
West Monroe, a Chicago-headquartered management and technology consulting firm, has acquired 2050 Partners, a Bay Area-based energy efficiency and decarbonization consulting firm.
Founded in 2015, 2050 Partners works with utilities on customer-focused energy efficiency programs and clean energy regulatory compliance. The firm advises clients on reducing energy usage, lowering customer bills, relieving grid stress, and meeting sustainability mandates.
2050 Partners also works with government agencies, national laboratories, non-profits, and consulting firms.
The boutique consultancy has 42 employees listed on LinkedIn.
The acquisition will enable West Monroe to better support utilities clients dealing with rising energy demand from data centers, EVs, and home electrification.
Alex Chase, CEO of 2050 Partners, and the entire team will join West Monroe’s energy and utilities practice.
The practice works with the largest utilities in the United States on grid modernization, operational strategy, and emerging technology.
"As AI and electrification accelerate energy demand, utilities must modernize infrastructure while also curbing usage on the customer side of the meter," said Gil Mermelstein, CEO of West Monroe. "2050 Partners brings the energy efficiency and regulatory depth that complements our strengths in grid modernization, technology, and utility operations—allowing us to deliver even more integrated solutions that utilities need to act on today."
The 2050 acquisition follows West Monroe’s December 2024 acquisition of Inspired Health, a Boston-based market insights and commercial strategy consultancy.
West Monroe has 2,250 people across offices in the US, UK, and Costa Rica. The firm’s practices include business operations, M&A, organization and people, customer engagement, product and experiences, and data and technology.
