Bain & Company invests in OpenAI Deployment Company

Bain & Company, a Boston-headquartered strategy consulting firm, has invested in the newly launched OpenAI Deployment Company.

The new company is majority-owned by OpenAI and is designed to help organizations build and deploy AI systems. The company is launching with $4 billion of initial investment, which will be used to scale operations and acquire firms – the first deal being Tomoro, a 150-person applied AI consulting and engineering firm.

OpenAI Deployment Company’s partners include 19 investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators. The partnership is led by TPG with Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield as co-lead founding partners.

The consulting firm investors include Bain & Company, McKinsey & Company, and Capgemini.

The Bain & Company investment builds on an OpenAI partnership first announced as a global services alliance in 2023.

The Bain and OpenAI Deployment Company partnership will focus on the private equity sector. For portfolio companies, the joint work will target top-line growth through faster product development and improved customer experience, as well as bottom-line gains from automation, cost reduction, and supply chain optimization.

Bain will also collaborate with OpenAI to deploy AI in its diligence practice to help PE client drive value across the deal cycle.
