Analysys Mason acquires space specialist Northern Sky Research
Analysys Mason, a UK-based management consulting firm specializing in the technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sector, has acquired Northern Sky Research (NSR), a Cambridge, MA-based research and consulting firm focusing on the satellite and space industry.
Founded in 2000, NSR provides market research and advisory services in satellite communications, satellite and space applications, financial analysis, and satellite and space infrastructure. The firm’s market research practice has offerings in benchmarks, trends and insights, and data gathering and forecasting, while its consulting practice delivers services in business plan development, technology assessment, due diligence, go-to-market strategy, and competitive positioning.
NSR has approximately 20 employees and works with clients including startups, corporations, and governments.
Analysys Mason’s acquisition of NSR will allow the firm to provide a wider breadth of services to clients, underpinned by expertise across 5G, fiber, and satellite platforms.
“At a time when 5G and satellite technologies and investment models are converging with disruptive effect, this acquisition couldn’t be more timely, and puts us in a unique position to advise our clients on these important developments,” said Bram Moerman, executive vice chair at Analysys Mason.
The deal is the London-based firm’s first acquisition since 2020, when it acquired Alollio & Konrad, a German telecom consultancy.
"We are very excited to be joining Analysys Mason,” said Christopher Baugh, founder and CEO of NSR. Against a backdrop of accelerating integration of terrestrial and satellite networks, as well as the rapid expansion of space activities worldwide, our combined knowledge and track record provides a tremendous opportunity to enhance our position globally as a satellite and space research and consulting provider.”
NSR was advised on the deal by a team from law firm Burns & Levinson, led by partner Andrew Merken.
Analysys Mason supports TMT sector clients with services in strategy, transactions, transformation, regulation and policy, and research. The firm has more than 380 employees, according to Linkedin, with offices in Europe, the US, UAE, India, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Aside from its new office in Cambridge, Analysys Mason has another US location in New York City.
