Atwell, a national design and engineering consulting firm, has acquired Summit Engineering Group, a Heber City, UT-based engineering and surveying firm.

Founded in 2001 and located 43 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, Summit provides civil and structural engineering, construction management and oversight, and land surveying services. The firm has expertise in residential and commercial buildings, infrastructure, and transmission lines.

Atwell’s acquisition of Summit will expand its physical presence into Utah. The Southfield, MI-based firm has 1,500 people across 35+ offices coast-to-coast.

“We look forward to working with the Summit team and leveraging their decades of experience within their community. We’re very excited to expand our national reach by bringing Atwell into Utah to provide greater service options for our clients,” said Jeff French, VP of real estate and land development for Atwell.

The Summit deal is Atwell’s eighth acquisition in the last year. In the last two months, Atwell acquired Mead Gilman & Associates, a Woodinville, WA-based land surveying firm, and Bay Engineering, a civil engineering, land surveying, and environmental services firm headquartered in Annapolis, MD.

Atwell in March acquired Blueline, a Kirkland, WA-based civil engineering, land use planning, and landscape architecture firm with approximately 75 employees.

“Atwell and Summit place a priority on getting it right the first time, which makes our services and company cultures an ideal fit,” said Brian Balls, principal at Summit. “Similarly, both companies have strong reputations for expertise, experience, and responsiveness to their clients’ needs. The breadth of Atwell’s services will expand into Utah, providing greater opportunity for our clients.”

Founded in 1905, Atwell provides consulting, engineering, and construction services to clients in real estate, power and energy, oil and gas, and infrastructure. The firm’s turnkey offerings span planning, project and program management, landscape architecture, engineering, land surveying, and environmental compliance.
