Designit builds airport worker experience tool for LAX
Designit, a Wipro-owned design agency, was hired by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to create a proprietary digital airport worker experience tool called “Altitude.”
Led from conception to delivery by Designit, Altitude is an information portal for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)’s 40,000 staff – including airline crews, safety staff, and other personnel, whether they are direct employees or workers from LAX’s various suppliers and partners.
The portal provides access to problem reporting, discounted food ordering, FAQs, commute options, and service directories.
Designit spent more than 26 weeks on research, design, development, testing, branding, and iteration on feedback to create Altitude. The firm interviewed various workers, conducted observational research, and recorded behavior to understand the needs of LAX staff.“The experience of Altitude itself is not just a toolbox with features strung together, but rather a concierge type service, making day-to-day tasks easier,” said Laura Breines, head of Designit Americas. “We’re excited to continue to build upon the foundation of Altitude in our next phase of work with LAWA, making Altitude an indispensable tool to airport workers that truly make’s their experience working at LAX better.”
Altitude is now available to LAX workers following an airport-wide awareness campaign.
“With this app, our dedicated workers can swiftly identify and resolve maintenance issues, supporting the seamless operation of our facilities,” said Ian Law, chief digital transformation officer, LAWA. “Additionally, Altitude provides information on worker commutes, streamlining their journey to and from work, and it opens doors to exclusive worker-only discounts at many airport concessions. Altitude is the beginning of a journey that intends to truly revolutionize the way airport workers work and experience our LAX community.”
LAX is the sixth-busiest airport in the world, serving nearly 66 million guests in 2022. LAWA, a department of the City of Los Angeles, operates LAX and Van Nuys Airport (VNY).
