Five HKA IP experts recognized, Rocco Vespe receives CMAA award
Five intellectual property experts from consulting firm HKA were listed on the 2025 edition of the IAM Patent 1000. Meanwhile, the risk and disputes consultancy announced that principal Rocco Vespe will this month receive a lifetime achievement award from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA).
The five recognized IP expert witnesses from HKA are partners Thomas Britven, John Hansen, Ryan LaMotta, Michael Lasinski, and Paul Meyer.
Now in its 12th year, the Patent 1000 focuses exclusively on patent practice and bills itself as the definitive “go-to” resource for those seeking world-class legal patent expertise.
Britven has more than 30 years of experience as an economic consultant and advisor. He has analyzed claims for damages relating to IP infringement, breach of contract, class action, antitrust, and unfair competition.
Hansen has more than 35 years of experience advising on economic, accounting, and damages matters in a wide range of industries.
LaMotta is an economic and damages expert with 15+ years of experience. He has been retained as an expert on 75+ matters in international trade violations, patent infringement, theft of trade secrets, breach of contract, copyright infringement, and valuation disputes.
Lasinski has over 30 years of experience advising on financial aspects of IP and commercial disputes. He has been appointed as an expert on hundreds of engagements across IP valuation, tax, bankruptcy, commercial damages, and patent licensing.
Meyer is global head of IP at HKA. He has 40 years of experience consulting on financial, accounting, valuation, and damages matters, and has been appointed as an expert in 500+ matters.

Vespe will receive a lifetime achievement award at the CMAA Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MAC)’s awards gala on June 13. The CMAA MAC has a membership base of nearly 600 construction management professionals from the tri-state Philadelphia Metro area.
CMAA MAC’s members come from more than 80 companies in architecture, engineering, and construction, as well as agencies such as the US Army Corps of Engineers and Department of Veterans Affairs.
Vespe is a civil engineer with over 40 years of industry experience, with expertise in delay, quantum, and technical matters. He has served as an expert for disputes with values up to $250 million. Vespe is a principal in HKA’s forensic engineering, architectural, and technical expert services practice.
