Baringa hires Michael Cheek as partner in banking and capital markets
Baringa, a London-headquartered management consultancy, has hired Michael Cheek as a partner in its banking and capital markets practice in New York.
Cheek brings more than 20 years of experience in capital markets consulting, having advised numerous buy-side and sell-side institutions on complex change programs. He has deep expertise working with executive teams on trading and post-trade change, regulatory programs, operating model redesign, and technology-enabled initiatives.
“Our clients are making decisions that directly affect cost, risk, and performance across their most critical operations,” said Cindra Maharaj, partner and head of US banking and capital markets at Baringa. “Michael’s experience enables us to work with clients on the issues that matter most to them, from strengthening core operations to executing complex change with precision in the market.”
Cheek most recently spent two years with Alvarez & Marsal as a managing director. Before that, he spent 18 years with Accenture, where he was a managing director and investment banking industry practice lead for North America.
Cheek has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Nottingham in the UK.
“We are at the cusp of a once-in-a-lifetime shift in a space that has remained largely unchanged for decades,” said Cheek. “AI and AGI will upend years of optimization roadblocks and digital assets will revolutionize transparency and create friction fiat movement at the heart of the capital markets.”
Baringa was founded in 2000 and has more than 2,300 employees, according to LinkedIn. The firm has offices in Europe, APAC, and North America, with US offices in New York, Charlotte, Chicago, and Houston.
Baringa has practices in strategy, finance, operations, supply chain, technology, and cybersecurity, among other areas, and works with clients in retail and consumer, energy and resources, financial services, life sciences, public sector, and TMT.
