BRG adds Drake Hernandez as director in energy and climate practice

Berkeley Research Group (BRG), a Washington, DC-based management consulting firm, has hired Drake Hernandez as a director in its energy and climate practice.

Based in Boston and Houston, Hernandez is an economic consultant who specializes in disputes and commercial advisory for low-carbon fuels and solutions – including hydrogen, methanol, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).

He has advised clients across the energy value chain on litigation and arbitration matters globally, providing expert analysis and testimony on damages, valuation, and commercial issues. Hernandez has also advised corporates and investors on commercial due diligence for clean fuel production facilities, subsea transmission infrastructure, and nuclear-related assets in North America and Europe.

He joins BRG from Charles River Associates, where he spent seven years and was a principal in the energy practice.

Hernandez has a master’s degree in technology and policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

His research and thought leadership has been featured in numerous publications and he regularly speaks at conferences on low-carbon fuels and energy transition topics.

“As energy markets grapple with price volatility, evolving climate policy, and the challenges of scaling hydrogen and other clean fuels from concept to bankable projects, Drake’s expertise in both dispute resolution and project commercialization significantly enhances our ability to help clients navigate the energy transition,” said Christopher Goncalves, chair of BRG’s energy and climate practice.

Hernandez added, “BRG’s Energy & Climate team brings together world-class disputes, regulatory, and commercial expertise. I am excited to work with colleagues across the firm to help clients assess risk, structure investments, and advance low-carbon projects that are both economically robust and resilient to changing market conditions.”

BRG recently welcomed Darin Cabral as chief financial officer.
