Greg Donat joins AlixPartners’ Turnaround & Restructuring practice as the Global Head of Strategy and Business Development. The former corporate attorney has deep experience in the world of private capital and will also take on the title of Managing Director at the firm’s New York office.

Donat, a graduate of Columbia Law School, started his career as a corporate attorney and established his consulting credentials when he set up his own financial advisory firm Hawkview LLC in 2011. By that point he was a veteran of the financial game, having worked as a Principal at Bank of America Securities, and as a Director at investment bank Lazard Freres & Co.

While running Hawkview as President, Donat also spent seven years as Partner at Casablanca Capital LP, a city-based hedge fund. In his 20+ years’ experience Donat has developed specialist expertise in restructuring advisory, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and the energy sector.

That particular toolkit will come in handy at AlixPartners. The consulting firm’s Turnaround & Restructuring practice is an industry leader, forming an elite group of restructuring specialists in the consulting sector that also includes Alvarez & Marsal and FTI Consulting.

“AlixPartners’ Turnaround and Restructuring group has long been the gold standard in its industry, and we look for Greg’s progressive thinking and innovations to help our professionals in that practice take things to even greater heights for our clients,” said Simon Freakley, CEO of AlixPartners.

“And that includes making sure that even more potential clients are aware of the broad array of services, and the deep expertise across those services, that AlixPartners has to offer them,” he added.

The appointment follows hot on the heels of the spring announcement that retail pricing expert Matthew Hamory has joined the firm’s Retail practice as a Managing Director. The former KPMG Principal takes on the role at AlixPartners’ Boston office. Hamory previously co-led the Retail practice at Oliver Wyman and has 19 years’ consulting experience under his belt.

Meanwhile, at the Performance Improvement unit in the firm’s New York headquarters, former McKinsey partner Pat Houston joined AlixPartners as a Managing Director. Houston will work closely with clients on strategic sourcing and procurement.
