Capgemini buys government IT consulting firm VariQ
Global IT consultancy Capgemini has acquired VariQ, a Rockville, MD-based IT consulting firm focusing on the public sector.
Founded in 2003, VariQ provides consulting services in software development, cloud, and cybersecurity to federal, state, and local government departments and agencies. The end-to-end IT services integrator works through several contract vehicles, including Alliant 2 best-in-class.
VariQ also provides digital transformation services to commercial clients via Rivet Logic, which it acquired last year.
The firm has over 140 employees, according to LinkedIn.
Capgemini’s acquisition of VariQ will bolster the firm’s US public sector IT consulting capability. VariQ will be rolled into Capgemini Government Solutions, the French multinational’s independent business that works with US federal clients.“As a company we are continuing to find ways to expand our ability to serve US government agencies and this acquisition would augment our digital and agile capabilities while growing our talent base,” said Jim Bailey, CEO of Capgemini Americas, who joined the firm earlier this year. “This acquisition marks an important moment for Capgemini Government Solutions and our vision for growth in the Americas.”
The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, subject to regulatory approval.
“At VariQ, we have continued to prioritize digital-first, secure agile capabilities and build a highly skilled team to deliver on priorities that align well to Capgemini and Capgemini Government Solutions,” said Ben Edson, founder and CEO of VariQ. “Joining Capgemini would provide the scale and expansive capabilities to enable us to better serve our 20+ client agencies. We look forward to delivering end-to-end solutions in support of our clients’ missions.”
Headquartered in Paris, Capgemini has more than 290,000 people globally providing business and technology consulting services to commercial and public sector clients. The firm had revenues of $18.9 billion in 2020.
