HKA adds three experts to forensic accounting and commercial damages practice
HKA has welcomed three experts – K. Scott Van Meter, Pamela Verick, and Alexander Lee – to its forensic accounting and commercial damages (FACD) practice in the United States.
Van Meter joins as a partner based in Houston. He brings over 35 years of experience in litigation consulting, bankruptcy and restructuring, valuation, and forensic accounting. Van Meter has served as an expert witness in more than 100 disputes involving commercial, intellectual property, accounting/auditing malpractice, valuation, and economic damages in North America and Europe.
He joins HKA from B. Riley Financial, where he spent the last five years as a managing director. Before that, Van Meter was a managing director at Secretariat, BRG, Navigant, and LECG.
He has a JD from Stetson University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Washington and Lee University. Van Meter is a certified public accountant in Texas and Florida and a certified insolvency and restructuring advisor. He is also certified in financial forensics.
Verick joins as a principal based in HKA’s Washington, DC office. She has over 25 years of experience in fraud risk management and compliance programs.
Verick specializes in advising on bribery and corruption risk, culture and conduct, ethics and integrity, compliance systems, fraud governance and risk management, and fraud and misconduct investigations.
She was previously a director in the forensic practices of Protiviti and KPMG.
Verick has master’s and bachelor’s degrees in justice from American University. She is a certified fraud examiner and a certified compliance and ethics professional.
Lee joins HKA as a director based in New York City. He has over 15 years of experience in accounting, business valuations, and damages quantification. Lee has testified and prepared expert reports for commercial and investor-state disputes in the mining, energy, banking, and real estate industries.
He previously was a director at AlixPartners and a senior director at FTI Consulting. Lee began his career at KPMG, where he was a senior accountant.
He has master’s and bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Waterloo in Canada and is a chartered professional accountant in Ontario, Canada and a chartered business valuator.
