BRG hires Jeff Stern as managing director in corporate finance practice
Berkeley Research Group (BRG), an Emeryville, CA-headquartered management consultancy, has hired Jeff Stern as a New York-based managing director in its corporate finance practice.
Stern brings more than 35 years of asset-based lending (ABL) experience to BRG, where he will strengthen the firm’s lender advisory and turnaround and restructuring services.
Stern has extensive expertise in negotiating and placing loans with private equity firms, private capital firms, other investment firms, and public companies.
He joins BRG after retiring from JPMorgan, where he worked since 1985. Stern was a managing director and regional manager in the bank’s ABL practice, where he founded the Southwest regional practice.
During his career at JPMorgan, Stern led financings for large companies such as Office Depot, Bass Pro Shops, and Kodiak Gas Services and worked on restructuring situations involving Circuit City, Forever 21, and Bed Bath & Beyond.
He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola University Maryland.
“We are thrilled to have Jeff join our Corporate Finance team. He brings deep banking, lending and financial experience across industries with a specialty in the retail and energy sectors,” said Bob Duffy, managing director and head of BRG’s corporate finance practice. “Having worked for one of the largest commercial banks and executed multibillion-dollar ABL placements, Jeff brings strong leadership, insights and perspectives to BRG and its clients.”
BRG advises on disputes and investigations, corporate finance, and performance improvement. The firm has more than 1,300 professionals across offices in the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions.
