Michael Lasinski joins HKA as partner

Michael Lasinski has joined HKA, a risk and disputes consulting firm, as a partner in the Chicago office.

Lasinski brings more than 30 years of experience advising on the financial aspects of intellectual property (IP) and commercial disputes. He has deep expertise in standard essential patent licensing, willing licensor and licensee analysis, and fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) economic analyses.

Lasinski has provided economic analyses for patent, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, data privacy, breach of contract, and other commercial damages matters. He has delivered expert testimony to various court and arbitration proceedings.

Lasinski’s high-profile engagements include advising creditors and other parties on IP and financial issues related to the $4.5-billion sale of Nortel’s patent portfolio and providing FRAND royalty evidence for the Unwired Planet v. Huawei trial in the UK.

Lasinski joins HKA from Hilco Intellectual Property Merchant Banking, where he was head of analysis. Before that, he was a senior managing director and head of IP disputes and consulting at Ankura.

He was also previously a funding member and CEO of 284 Partners, an IP consulting firm, and a managing director at Capstone Advisory Group. Earlier in his career, Lasinski was a managing director at Ocean Tomo and a VP at Charles River Associates.

He has an MBA in finance and accounting and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Lasinski is a certified public accountant, certified in financial forensics, and a certified licensing professional.

HKA recently hired Gangjin Li, PhD, as a director in its forensic technical services practice in Dallas.
