Charles River Associates adds two vice presidents
Charles River Associates (CRA) has hired Josh Sherman, PhD, as a vice president in its antitrust and competition practice and Gene Tien, PhD, as a vice president in its transfer pricing practice.
Based in Chicago, Sherman is an economist with over 15 years of academic, consulting, and government experience. He provides expert testimony and economic analysis on antitrust litigation matters and competitive effects of mergers, including related damages.
He most recently served as chief economist at the Israel Competition Authority, leading economic analysis of mergers, abuse of dominant position, and competition-related matters. Before that, he was a principal at CRA and a VP at Compass Lexecon. Before entering consulting, Sherman was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Vienna.
He is currently an adjunct professor at Northwestern University, where he teaches economics.
Sherman has a PhD in economics from Bar-Ilan University in Israel, a master’s degree in economics from Cornell University, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Based in Silicon Valley, Tien is an economist with over 20 years of professional services experience. He has extensive experience working with global multinationals on intercompany pricing and economic valuation issues that impact tax positions.
He has designed and implemented global pricing strategies for IP, assessed tax-related risk for transfer pricing, and led audit defense and dispute resolution matters. Tien has supported clients in consumer products, retail, energy, and life sciences.
He previously spent 18 years with law firm Baker McKenzie, where he was principal economist. Before that, he spent six years with PwC, where he was a transfer pricing manager.
Tien has a PhD in economics from Northwestern University.
