Deloitte announces 'Team Deloitte' for 2020 Olympics and Paralympics
Big Four firm Deloitte announced its sponsorship of six athletes preparing to compete in the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
The Deloitte Team includes five athletes preparing to return to the Olympics and Paralympics, as well as one athlete hoping to compete in the inaugural surfing competition at the summer games.
The sponsored athletes exemplify Deloitte’s values of “leadership, drive, integrity, and commitment to excellence,” according to a release from the consultancy.
"Deloitte is proud of our long-standing collaboration with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to bring invaluable opportunities to athletes," Joe Ucuzoglu, CEO of Deloitte US, said. "The spirit of the Olympics unites all of us as champions of sport and inclusivity, and we are thrilled to be a part of the journey of these six tremendous and inspiring athletes to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020."
Deloitte has been an active sponsor of US Olympic athletes since 2009, and has “helped the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee explore new possibilities to strengthen its mission of empowering athletes and inspiring all Americans,” a press release stated.
Team Deloitte athlete and professional surfer Carissa Moore commented, "The chance of participating in a first-time Olympic sport is an amazing opportunity, and I'm thrilled to have the support of sponsors like Deloitte to join me on this journey."
Team Deloitte’s six athletes are:
Chris Hammer (para-triathlon), who finished top 10 in the 1500 and marathon at the 2012 Paralympics, and finished in fourth place in the triathlon at the 2016 Paralympics.
Dana Mathewson (wheelchair tennis), who competed in singles and doubles competitions at the 2016 Paralympics.
Tatyana McFadden (wheelchair racing), a multisport Paralympic athlete who has racked up 17 Paralympic medals.
Crystal Dunn (soccer), a player in the National Women’s Soccer League and a member of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup-winning US team.
Carissa Moore (surfing), a pro surfer and winner of three World Titles in the World Championship Tour of surfing.
Benjamin Patch (volleyball), a member of the US Men’s National Team and winner of a gold medal at the 2017 NORCECA Championship.
Earlier this year, Deloitte also announced a multiyear partnership to serve as the official services provider of the US Soccer Federation.
