Attain LLC, a management and technology consultancy focusing on the public and nonprofit sectors, has sold its federal division to Maximus, a global government services firm, for $430 million.

Founded in 2009, Attain provides technology consulting services – including digital transformation, ERP and CRM software implementation, health IT, business intelligence, analytics, and security – as well as management consulting spanning strategy, organization design, change management, and business process optimization.

The firm has more than 500 consultants across offices in the Washington, DC area and in Morrisville, NC and Cranford, NJ.

Attain’s sale of its federal division to Maximus for $430 million will leave it with its education, nonprofit, healthcare, and state and local government market practices. The remaining private company will rebrand as Attain Partners.

“The acquisition of the federal practice by Maximus provides a unique opportunity to bring further innovation at scale for our clients in the federal market and growth opportunities for our people,” said Manish Agarwal, president and COO of Attain. “The transaction also will infuse Attain Partners with the funding to make strategic investments that significantly increase its services and solutions across the education, nonprofit, healthcare, and state and local government landscapes.”

Maximus will add Attain Federal to its US federal services segment. The Reston, VA-based public company expects Attain Federal to generate revenue of $120 million to $140 million in the remaining seven months of fiscal 2021.

The acquisition will bolt on additional automation and digital expertise as well as expand Maximus’ US federal market – two areas of targeted strategic growth for the global firm.

“Our M&A strategy remains keenly focused on enabling us to build long-term, sustainable, organic growth by continuing to build scale, enhance our clinical and digital capabilities, and extend into new areas,” said Bruce Caswell, president and CEO of Maximus. “We aim to deliver a unique citizen experience and use digital technologies and industry leading capabilities to deliver innovation to our federal customers and the citizens they serve. Attain Federal joining Maximus helps drive this aim forward even further.”

Founded in 1975, Maximus delivers business process management and technology services to government health and human services agencies in the US, Canada, the UK, Italy, Sweden, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia.

The firm has more than 34,000 employees and annual revenue of $3.46 billion.
