West Monroe hires Bret Greenstein as chief AI officer

West Monroe, a Chicago-headquartered management and technology consulting firm, has hired Bret Greenstein as chief AI officer.

Based in New York, Greenstein is an AI executive with more than 30 years of experience leading large-scale technology transformations.

In his new role at West Monroe, Greenstein will lead AI strategy across three core areas:

  • shaping the consultancy’s AI-enabled offerings across industries
  • embedding AI into West Monroe’s client delivery
  • driving firmwide adoption of AI through enablement and governance

“I’m excited to build on West Monroe’s track record of success, culture of innovation, and deep technology expertise to help build one of the most AI-native consulting firms in the market," Greenstein said. "West Monroe has the right mindset and momentum—and I’m honored to be part of what comes next."

Greenstein joins West Monroe from PwC, where he spent the last four years as a partner and generative AI leader focusing on offerings, alliances, and go-to-market. Before that, he spent three years at Cognizant, where he was SVP and global head of AI and analytics.

Earlier in his career, Greenstein spent 25 years with IBM, where he was global vice president of Watson IoT solution and offerings and global CIO for emerging markets.

“Our clients are navigating seismic changes in their industries, and AI is both a catalyst and a tool for transformation. West Monroe’s multidisciplinary approach—combining industry, functional, and technology expertise—is a strong advantage for innovation,” said Gil Mermelstein, CEO of West Monroe. “Bret’s leadership strengthens that edge, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible to deliver lasting value for our clients.”

West Monroe has been working with clients to leverage AI in areas including software, outsourcing, workforce strategy, and data reporting.

Internally, the firm’s employees are using a proprietary AI tool to access firm resources, navigate company systems, and receive tailored guidance.

West Monroe has 2,250 people across nine offices in the United States, alongside international offices in London and San Jose, Costa Rica. The firm’s practices include business operations, M&A, organization and people, customer engagement, product and experiences, and data and technology.

West Monroe earlier this year welcomed ex-Accenture executive Harin Shetty as president and board member.
