West Monroe appoints Tom Hulsebosch as Chicago head as office expands
West Monroe Partners, a Chicago-based national management and tech consultancy, has appointed seasoned consultant Tom Hulsebosch as Chicago office leader. The firm plans to double its workforce in the city by 2024.
Hulsebosch has been with West Monroe since 2008, serving as leader of the energy & utilities practice (which he launched) and as a member of the firm’s executive team. He has also led the Dallas office for the past three years, overseeing tenfold growth of the office over that span.
Hulsebosch takes over from Doug Armstrong, who has led the Chicago office since 2014. Armstrong will focus on his existing role as chief operating officer. Hulsebosch will continue to lead the energy & utilities practice in addition to leading the Chicago team, which makes up the bulk of West Monroe’s national footprint.
The employee-owned, full-service consultancy has 800 employees in Chicago, and 1,400 across a total nine offices in the United States. West Monroe has plans to double its Chicago footprint to 1,600 people by 2024.
To this end, the firm will be moving its headquarters from The Franklin building at 222 W. Adams St. to nearby 311 W. Monroe St., doubling its office space and buying naming rights to the newly renovated building. There is also the added synergy of the street name matching up with everything else (presumably the company was named after the Chicago street in 2002, when it was founded by four ex-Arthur Andersen consultants).
“As home to our headquarters, Chicago is a vital market to West Monroe’s continued growth plans,” Hulsebosch said. “Chicago also happens to be where I’ve spent most of my life and I am honored to be able to lead our firm’s stewardship and presence within the community.”
Prior to joining West Monroe in 2008 Hulsebosch was president and founder of Strategy 2 Solution, a consulting firm focused on wireless network solutions for municipalities, utilities, corporations, and service providers. Before that, he was vice president of municipal network sales for EarthLink Municipal Networks, and spent 19 years in a variety engineering, product management, and sales roles with Motorola.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical, electronics, and communications engineering from Marquette University, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
“Tom Hulsebosch has played instrumental roles in developing both our scale and our reputation over the past 10-plus years. As a successful office and industry leader, he understands the multiple dimensions of West Monroe’s business and how to orchestrate these within a large and growing team to create value for our clients and our organization,” said Kevin McCarty, West Monroe’s president and CEO.
Earlier this year, the firm doubled its footprint in Minneapolis with the acquisition of GoKart Labs, a digital product studio.
