Deloitte partners with Apple to launch Connected Patient product

In the latest evolution of the Deloitte/Apple partnership, the consulting and tech giants have integrated their personalized medicine products. ConvergeHEALTH – developed by Deloitte – will be available through the Apple HealthKit, with more products from the Big Four firm’s fledgling Apple practice expected soon.

In 2016 Deloitte forged a partnership with global tech giant Apple with the goal of helping clients use the iOS platform to dramatically improve their organization and operations. As part of the accord, Deloitte set up its Apple practice – a consulting industry first – which comprises more than 5,000 strategic advisors who bring iOS solutions to a broad range of client challenges.

“We know that iOS is the best mobile platform for business because we’ve experienced the benefit ourselves with over 100,000 iOS devices in use by Deloitte’s workforce, running 75 custom apps,” said Punit Renjen, CEO of Deloitte Global, at the time.

“Our dedicated Apple practice will give global businesses the expertise and resources they need to empower their mobile workforce to take advantage of the powerful ecosystem iOS, iPhone, and iPad offer, and help them achieve their ambitions, while driving efficiency and productivity.”

Since then Deloitte has been laboring on its ConvergeHEALTH platform, which leverages analytics and connected mobile devices to develop personalized health care services, offering a whole new level of patient engagement. Examples include the Patient Connect solution, which enables clients in the Life Science field to interact with their patients on mobile devices and effect positive adaptations to their care.

In the latest development, ConvergeHEALTH has now been integrated with Apple’s HealthKit, CareKit and ResearchKit services. These frameworks enable Apple users to store a wide variety of health data on their mobile devices. Through HealthKit they can develop personalized fitness programs. CareKit is software that helps users understand their medical conditions, while ResearchKit helps doctors and researchers analyze data from millions of people in their bid to understand and combat diseases.

"There is a convergence happening across the healthcare ecosystem and Apple devices help put the patient at the center in full control of their health information,” said Brett Davis, ConvergeHEALTH general manager and principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “The digitization and consumerization of healthcare is changing all aspects of the industry including the way patients, providers and life sciences innovators interact,"

Chris Zant, life sciences global digital and patient engagement leader, and principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP, added: "Patients' expectations for more personalized services are one of the driving forces behind health care's overall transformation toward more patient-centric care models.”

“By integrating ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect, which supports 300,000 patients globally, with Apple's health frameworks, care coordinators can better manage their patient population by proactively engaging with their patients using their Apple devices and meeting those growing patient expectations."

Starship Enterprise

The Deloitte/Apple partnership is evolving on multiple fronts and will soon have a business impact beyond the healthcare industry. The main platform to watch out for is EnterpriseNext from Deloitte Consulting, which will help clients maximize the value provided by iPhone and iPad usage in their industries and help them build iOS solutions which are custom-made for their industry or business development.

The greatest functional benefit to clients will be seen in HR, analytics, ERP, and CRM solutions. Deloitte Digital Studios will develop and provide iOS apps to businesses which integrate with and optimize their existing platforms. Deloitte itself provides one example of how this might play out. The consulting firm has more than 100,000 employees currently equipped with work iPhones which have around 75 custom-built iOS apps to help them do their jobs.

“As the leader in digital transformation strategy, Deloitte is an ideal partner that brings a team of Apple-dedicated strategic advisors to help clients truly revolutionize how they work using iOS, iPhone, and iPad,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. "iPhone and iPad are transforming how people everywhere get work done. And through this partnership, we’re able to help even more businesses tap into the incredible capabilities that only the Apple ecosystem can deliver."
