Michael Berta and Jenna Komensky join HKA’s US offices

Michael Berta has joined HKA’s San Francisco office as a principal and Jenna Komensky has joined the New York office as a senior associate consultant.

Berta brings more than 25 years of construction industry experience to HKA. He advises on damages, accounting, contract compliance, and cost overrun issues primarily relating to large and sophisticated construction projects.

Berta has authored expert reports and provided expert testimony on cost and damages and the application of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) cost principles to construction claims and has presented at numerous mediations, prepared large change orders, and assisted clients with settlement negotiations.

Berta most recently spent over four years as an independent consultant advising on construction matters including cost and damages analysis, productivity loss analysis, claims preparation, and dispute resolution. Before that he spent over three years at FTI Consulting’s San Francisco office, where he was a senior director.

Earlier in his career, Berta was a senior manager at Exponent and a VP at Seo Consulting. He began his consulting career at Navigant, where he spent more than six years and was latterly an associate director.

He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley.

Komensky has five years of experience in consulting and financial services, with a focus on financial data analysis. She joins HKA from FTI Consulting, where she spent nearly two years as a consultant. Before that, she spent three years at Prudential Financial, where she completed the firm’s financial leadership development program – holding roles across enterprise risk management, investment risk, tax compliance, and performance measurement.

Komensky has a master’s degree in accounting from Seton Hall University and a bachelor’s degree in business, organizations, and society from Franklin & Marshall College.

HKA specializes in risk mitigation and dispute resolution consulting within the capital projects and infrastructure sector. The firm has more than 1,000 people across offices in North America, EMEA, and APAC.

HKA recently welcomed John Levitske as a Chicago-based partner in the forensic accounting and commercial damages group.
