West Monroe, a national management consulting firm, recently supported eyecare services company Visionworks with an organization-wide data analytics project.

Optical retailers like Visionworks – which has 700 locations in the US – offer healthcare services like eye exams, as well as glasses and contact lens retail services. This dual nature can lead to more complex and fragmented communication, data, and IT systems.

At Visionworks, optometrists, opticians, and associates were utilizing manual processes and complex Excel and one-off databases that created rework and data doubtfulness.

The company engaged consulting firm West Monroe to support it in the early stages of its multi-year “One Team” initiative, which aims to optimize experiences for patients, customers, and associates. West Monroe was tasked with helping Visionworks consolidate data reporting and build a centralized platform.

In the first stage of a 12-month engagement, West Monroe’s consultants identified meaningful KPIs and then rapidly piloted a data platform built on the firm’s Intellio DataOps offering. Then, the consulting firm rolled out a prioritized use case, followed by refinement of the governance and operating model. Lastly, West Monroe trained 40 power users on the new enterprise data platform and reporting system.

According to West Monroe, the project has led to a 30% reduction in time spent reporting for retail associates; a 15% improvement in business productivity; and 25% savings in data-related IT operational costs. Visionworks employees say the new system will save them four to six hours every Monday.

Chris Enslin, CIO of Visionworks, was pleased with West Monroe’s work. “I think the big difference with West Monroe is it truly feels like you have a strategic partner that helps you think through the end-to-end business flows. They bring a totally different element to what we do in helping us think through both the business as well as the technology.”

Headquartered in Chicago, West Monroe provides management and technology consulting services to a wide range of industries. The firm has 1,500 employees across eight offices in the US.
